The Story Behind Begawan Veranda Publishing 

Mapunda grew up in England in the 1970s, a boy whose dreams stretched beyond the narrow corridors of his world. Technology fascinated him, but access was scarce, resources even scarcer. His parents—both teachers—nurtured his curiosity, yet the weight of expectation threatened to anchor him to a predictable path.

Then came the turning point. In the 1980s, as computers whispered their promise of revolution, Mapunda knew he had to chase the future. A scholarship to study computer science in Europe took him far from home, from everything familiar. The struggle was relentless—adapting to a new culture, battling self-doubt, proving his place among skeptics who dismissed his vision.

But Mapunda refused to be defeated. After years of navigating the digital industry, he realized something was missing—"stories" The untold voices, the unwritten narratives, the overlooked creators who had stories but no means to share them. The world needed a space where ideas could thrive.

So, in the late 1990s, he founded Begawan Veranda, not just a tech initiative but a mission to bring affordable digital access to aspiring writers across Europe. Thousands gained internet access, and with it, the ability to share their words. But Mapunda saw a deeper need—a publishing house, one where independent authors could turn their dreams into reality.

By 2024, Begawan Veranda Publishing (BGP) had given countless writers a platform, their ebooks reaching readers who once felt unseen. What started as a boy’s dream of technology became a movement for stories. Mapunda had built more than a company; he had built a legacy—a home for voices waiting to be heard.

What we do

The road to self-publishing is filled with challenges, from navigating marketing strategies to overcoming financial constraints. At BGP, we are committed to removing financial barriers for our authors while providing unwavering support.  

Unlike many publishing houses, BGP does not charge authors any fees—instead, we choose writers based on internal criteria that reflect creativity, originality, and potential. Once selected, our authors receive full support without any financial penalties.  

Authors publishing through BGP have the freedom to sell their ebooks through our platform or any other they choose. 

We believe in empowering writers, not restricting them. And when it comes to royalties, BGP offers the best structure in the industry, ensuring authors receive no less than 70% of their earnings—far exceeding industry norms.
